I Love the Whole Pound of You

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is one of those places that are completely surreal to me. My son had to be in ICU for six days, and it was the first time I had been in this angel-filled part of a hospital. I saw signs showing how long a little…tiny little baby had been in ICU, and six days in comparison was like a second; a blink of an eye.

You can’t help but look at a baby born prematurely, with pure wonder. The perseverance in their presence feels astounding. They seem and are so fragile, but they also feel and are so strong!

I think we all know at least one person who either had a premature baby, or was born prematurely. The closest person to me, who had premie twins, is my sister. One of the babies made it (the one they thought wasn’t going to), and the other took his angel trip back to the heavens. I can see that seven years later it still breaks her heart, and I don’t even try to understand her pain. The baby who made it is now a fully thriving, seven year old beauty! She is tall, strong, witty, intelligent as all out doors and funny as all get out! She is loving and sensitive, and it is a.l.w.a.y.s. impressive, humbling, invigorating, amazing, and beautiful to see pictures from when she was born, and pictures of her now.

I thought of writing this post because of another post I am writing about Adoption Awareness. It kind of reminded me of loving babies in general, and the many varied experiences people have when they become parents.

If you would like more information about premature babies, I think the March of Dimes is a good organization to check out.

Much love to all the premies out there! You rock!!!
